There are no two ways about it: people skills are important. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to make a switch or if you’re intent on keeping the job that you currently have. Of course, not everybody would consider themselves a “people person.” While it’s true that some are extroverted, others are introverted and not naturally comfortable in social settings.Regardless, people skills are critical for those who are seeking to increase their value as an employee or their potential as a candidate. As with anything else, improving these skills requires training; in other words, practice. Make a concerted effort to be friendly and outgoing, even if you’re an introvert by nature. Nobody’s asking you to be the “life of the party,” but even a small increase in your efforts to be more personable will be noticed.Remember, networking is a big key to enjoying more success in the workplace and in your career. Sharpening your people skills is a necessity for networking to be successful.
