About This Issue . . .

It’s appropriate that “talking turkey” is the theme of this issue of The Animal Science Monitor.  First, the Thanksgiving holiday is later this month.  Second, our “Career Book of the Month” selection is titled Crucial Conversations, and it deals with how to talk with others about sensitive topics, including topics related to your job and the workplace.

Of course, the goal with all of this is to help you grow your career, reach your employment goals, and enjoy long-term professional satisfaction . . . topped off with a generous helping of pumpkin pie!

This issue of The Animal Science Monitor is all about getting things done!  “Wait a minute,” you might be thinking, “isn’t every issue about that?”  Perhaps, but this month we’re focusing even more on the topic, including with our “Career Book of the Month” selection and the first in a series of articles about assessing both your current job and your career overall in terms of its financial value.

However, the first thing you must get done is reading this issue of The ASM.  With that in mind, we certainly hope we’ve done OUR job-which is to consistently provide value with our publication-and that you enjoy our October issue!

Welcome to the first-ever football issue of The Animal Science Monitor! Why have a football issue? Why NOT have a football issue! After all, my favorite NFL team is Baltimore, the defending Super Bowl champion. However, the fact of the matter is that football pervades nearly every aspect of American life, including the workplace and the pursuit of your professional goals.

So while we don’t have any prognostications about how this team or that team will fare this coming season, I do predict that this issue of The ASM will help you get your “game face” on when it comes to improving your employment situation and growing your career. It’s kickoff time!

Welcome to a very special issue of The Animal Science Monitor!  Why is it special?  Because it’s the 150thissue of our newsletter!  For nearly a decade, we’ve been providing industry news, career advice, and hiring and management tips, and we’d like to thank you—our readers—for your loyalty and dedication during that time.

Actually, this entire issue of The ASM is one big ‘thank you’ designed to show our appreciation.  So, as always, we hope that you enjoy the issue . . . and here’s to 150 more!

This issue of The Animal Science Monitor is all about “give and take.”  That actually happens to be the title of June’s “Career Book of the Month,” and it also aptly describes my lead story about what it takes to retain your best employees.  (What does it take?  You giving.)

Of course, there are also our new job opportunities in animal science and nutrition.  Take a chance and give them a look.  You’ll be glad you did.  Take it from us.

This issue of The Animal Science Monitor is all about great stories and great lessons . . . for your career and also for your life! That’s because success involves much more than professional success. It involves personal success, as well, and having one without the other could very well leave you feeling unfulfilled.

That, of course, is not what we want at The ASM. We want you to feel fulfilled, satisfied, and happy—not just with your career and life, but with this issue of newsletter! Enjoy!

In this issue of The Animal Science Monitor, we want you to “spring forward” to success! Yes, that’s a reference to both the season of the year and also to the future of your company and/or career.

In fact, we incorporate some divergent elements to accomplish this, including a Major League Baseball great, an examination of “creative intelligence,” and our calendar of events for the month of April. So take a moment to focus on the future with this issue of The ASM . . . we hope you enjoy it!

In today’s technologically driven, social media saturated society, it seems that the majority of our time is spent networking, sharing, and connecting.  So we decided to make that the theme of the March issue of The Animal Science Monitor!

But we’re not just talking about networking in the virtual realm.  We’ll address “old-fashioned, face-to-face networking,” as well . . . especially since you’ll have the chance to speak with me in person later this month (more on that below).  However, in the meantime, I hope that you enjoy this issue of The ASM—and that it helps you to network, share, and connect your way to greater success in 2013!

In this issue of The Animal Science Monitor, we’re all about giving you the edge you need, whatever your goals are.  That edge could be the blueprint for organizational success, attendance at an upcoming event in the animal science and animal nutrition industry, or information necessary to “slay the dragon” during your face-to-face interview and land a great job offer.  (What do we mean by that?  Read on to find out.)

So if you’re looking for an edge, an advantage, or anything else that will help you reach your career or team objectives and beat the competition, then we believe you’ll enjoy this issue of The ASM.  You probably won’t hear me say this often, but . . . we invite you to take advantage of us!
